Description

Chengdacai manufactures custom extruded aluminum motor housings for electric motors, servo systems, drives and industrial automation. The extrusion creates the main body efficiently, while CNC machining establishes the end faces, mounting interfaces, bores, slots, threaded holes and other functional features defined by your drawing.

Application and design review

A motor housing must do more than protect internal components. Its profile geometry can influence structural rigidity, heat dissipation, bearing and end-cover alignment, cable routing and assembly efficiency. During DFM review, we evaluate wall-thickness transitions, internal cavities, ribs, external fins, corner radii and machining access before tooling.

Dimensional stability: consistent wall distribution helps control distortion during extrusion, heat treatment and machining.

Machining datums: functional bores, end faces and mounting interfaces should reference clearly defined drawing datums.

Thermal management: fins and external surface area can be incorporated where heat rejection is part of the design.

Assembly design: screw bosses, grooves, cable exits and end-cover features can be integrated or machined after extrusion.

Information required for quotation

Send a 2D drawing and, where available, a 3D model together with alloy, temper, finish, finished length, annual quantity, prototype quantity, critical tolerances, inspection expectations and delivery destination.

Frequently asked questions

Can the motor housing include external cooling fins?

Yes. Fin geometry can be evaluated as part of the extrusion cross-section, subject to die feasibility, wall balance and handling requirements.

Can the bore and end faces be CNC machined after extrusion?

Yes. Boring, end facing and other precision features can be machined from defined datums after extrusion and heat treatment.

Which alloy is suitable for an aluminum motor housing?

6063 is often selected for extrudability and finish quality, while 6061 or 6082 may be considered for higher strength or machining requirements. The drawing and application determine the final choice.

Can anodizing be kept off grounding or bearing-contact areas?

Yes. Masking or post-anodizing machining can be specified for functional contact surfaces.

What determines tooling and unit price?

Section size, weight, die complexity, alloy, tolerances, machining, finish, inspection, order quantity and packaging all affect quotation.
