Aluminum Extrusion RFQ Checklist: What Buyers Should Provide

A complete aluminum extrusion RFQ checklist covering drawings, alloy, tolerances, finish, machining, quantity and delivery. This article helps engineers and buyers prepare practical requirements for custom aluminum components.

Start with controlled drawings

Provide a dimensioned cross section and finished-part drawing with revision level. Include 3D files when useful, but do not rely on 3D geometry alone for tolerances, threads or finish notes.

Material and mechanical requirements

State preferred alloy and temper or describe the performance requirement if selection is open. Identify structural loads, conductivity, corrosion exposure or appearance priorities that affect material choice.

Dimensions and tolerances

Mark functional datums and critical dimensions. Separate extrusion tolerances from machined tolerances. Include straightness, twist, flatness and cut-length expectations where they matter.

Secondary processing and finish

List cutting, drilling, tapping, CNC machining, welding, deburring, anodizing, powder coating and assembly. Define color, gloss, cosmetic faces, masking and packaging protection.

Commercial information

Include prototype quantity, production order quantity, annual demand, target delivery, shipping destination and required certifications. This allows tooling and production assumptions to be quoted clearly.

From Design Review to Quotation
